Colorful Abstract Artwork by Japanese artist Kazuo Shiraga (05)

Sacred Flame, 1975 by Kazuo Shiraga. Lyrical Abstraction
Be Inspired by this colorful abstract artwork from the Japanese artist Kazuo Shiraga (1924–2008). His painting method involves dripping paint onto canvas instead of using a brush and painting strokes with his feet while hanging from a rope. His work exhibits an incomparable feeling of power and speed and stands as one of the monumental landmarks in the history of Japanese avant-garde art. Love his free, creative and expressive way of making art. Would love to make artwork like this on my feet like Kazuo did do before. :-) I wrote more blogs about his interesting work, see THIS LINK
More about the artist
Kazuo Shiraga was a Japanese artist best known for his performative painting practice. Shiraga’s gestural style was influenced by American Abstract Expressionism and indicative of his participation in the Gutai avant-garde movement. The object of Gutai was to allow action and everyday life into the creation of dynamic artworks. The artist would suspend himself over his canvases, swinging back and forth, creating marks with his feet, creating a unique texture and thickness to his abstract swirls and splatters.

“I want to paint as though rushing around a battlefield, exerting myself to collapse from exhaustion,” the artist once proclaimed. Born on August 12, 1924 in Amagasaki, Japan, he graduated from the Kyoto Municipal Special School of Painting in 1948 and joined the Gutai group in 1954.
In a seminal early work, Challenge to the Mud (1955), the artist explored the gesture of sculpting clay by throwing himself and contorting his semi-naked body in a pit of mud. Through the following decades, Shiraga continued to work on activating art through moving a body in space. He died on April 8, 2008 in Amagasaki, Japan. Today, the artist’s works are included in the collections of the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Hiroshima City Museum of Art among others.

Greetings from a snowy Amsterdam!

Greetings from a snowy Amsterdam! Today it's really Wintertime in Amsterdam. We had code RED because of the bad weather circumstances. From Schiphol Airport (NL) many flights have been cancelled because of the snow and frost. Trains from Amsterdam Central Station and other locations have been cancelled too. So really a chaos! Hopefully it will change soon.

Colorful fashion photography by Iain Crawford (01)

Stunning and colorful artwork from fashion photographer Iain Crawford. Be Inspired ......
More about the artist
Iain grew up in Africa and Malaysia and developed a passion for photography at an early age. On moving to London, he worked as an account handler for Saatchi & Saatchi but left to pursue his photographic career. After spending several years living and working in New York, he is now based back in London but continues to work internationally.

Iain loves to capture images that have a strong graphic and textural quality, often searching out the graphical symmetry in chaos, while still maintaining the personality and emotion of the subject. His career has lead him to shoot campaigns for many of the world’s top brands and receive commissions from a host of top international magazines.

Commenting on the paint shoot, Iain says: ‘I love the fusion between paint and model. The resulting shapes are as opulent as any piece of bespoke couture. The excitement and anticipation as we waited to see the next piece of unpredictable chaos was electric. There was something magical about how random chance materialised into beautiful images in front of our eyes.

Paper Art: Impressive Baroque paper wigs by Russian artist Asya Kozina (02)

While surfing this afternoon on internet I found these impressive Baroque paper wigs by Russian artist Asya Kozin. What a Beauty, Creativity and Craftsmanship by using paper art! I wrote earlier another blog about these fantastic artists. Be Inspired ........
More about the artists:
Asya and Dmitriy Kosin’s Art Group is a creative duet focused on exploring the possibilities of contemporary paper sculptures. Their interest as professional artists lays in the field of cultural research, archiving and plastic expression of different historical, traditional and artistic renderings. Unique and complex designs are calling to be tried on, insistent on telling their stories through photographs and limited edition prints.
The versatile white paper is used not only as a tool, but also as a concept which helps to express the historical process in a symbolic fashion. The images of Mongolian, African, Scythian, Venetian, Baroque, Art Nouveau cultures are easily recognizable while simultaneously metaphorical. A paraphrase of modern appropriation of history as a set of events cleared from insignias of the epochs, but often full of contemporary emotions and value judgements. Artists have since left the blank paper surface to be devoured by the perception of the viewer.
The plain white sheet works have become the artist’s signature mark. Asya and Dmitriy Kozin believe that white paper allows for them to accent form and conceal secondary details. All of their pieces are crafted by hand, each unique in its own right, never to be replicated. This individuality forms an opposition to multiplying media images created with the help of digital tools, a representation of modern visual culture. At first glance, one may suspect some of Kozin’s works to be graphically designed through digital means. Happily enough, these projects have been left unaltered by present-day technology, a true representation of craftsmanship.
