MORE ABOUT THE DESIGNER

ROOTS
For Syrian-born designer Rami Al Ali, his love of refined aesthetics began at an early age. His curiosity for fine fabrics and design led him to study Visual Arts at the college of Fine Arts in Damascus, Syria, where his true talent became apparent. After astounding his professors with an unorthodox presentation of the core curriculum, Al Ali graduated in 1995 and quickly started his fashion career in Dubai and Beirut. It was in these two great cities that Al Ali worked with some of the region’s leading fashion houses.
RISE
Established in Dubai in 2001, Rami Al Ali Couture entered the fashion arena with bold creations and uncompromising couture designs. After a number of inspiring fashion shows around the Gulf, Al Ali’s popularity spread and his designs began to occupy the pages of leading fashion publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Business of Fashion.

The excitement continued and garnered attention from global brands such as Swarovski, when Al Ali was selected to be part of Unbridaled, a book published by the global Austrian crystal brand, with revered couture veterans Giorgio Armani, Vivian Westwood and John Galliano, amongst others. Later, the house collaborated with many notable creatives, such as Spanish architect Carmelo Zappulla for Expo 2020 Dubai for the design and craft program, Lebanese Jewelry designer Nadine Kanso, international high street giant Charles & Keith, the private airline Royal Jet and many fine jewellery brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Messika.

JOURNEY
Al Ali’s ultimate breakthrough came in 2009, when he was invited as a guest member of Alta Moda Alta Roma, showing his Spring/Summer Couture collection on the official couture week calendar. This further strengthened relationships with the European fashion media and his success was reaffirmed when The Middle East Magazine named him as one of the top 50 most influential Arabs.

In January 2012, Al Ali debuted at Couture Fashion Week in Paris, showcasing his Spring/Summer 2012 collection. With a series of collections, Al Ali has successfully built and maintained a brand that exhibits unique craftsmanship and a vision of creativity.

In 2014, Rami Al Ali launched his Ready-To-Wear line which consists of classic silhouettes and elegant lines reflecting a modern approach to luxurious evening-wear. In 2020, the brand went on to expand in yet another line and launched Rami Al Ali White. The collection is a new edition of Ready-To-Wear bridal designs. Today, Al Ali’s designs are synonymous with creative artistry, modern elegance and sought-after socialites and international celebrities.

The Beauty of Art: 'Venice' by Russian painter Gleb Goloubetski, Part 2

Would like to share with you today this inspiring artwork from Venice from the very talented Russian painter / impressionist Gleb Goloubetski. What an interesting techniques and delightful coloruse he is using here. Earlier I wrote more blogs about ART, SEE HERE

The artist, Gleb Goloubetski
More about Gleb
Born in Omsk in the former Soviet Union in 1975, Gleb Goloubetski displayed noticeable artistic talent as a child under the tutelage of his father who was also a successful painter.

Gleb's formal training came from his studies at the highly acclaimed academy in St Petersburg where his work attracted much attention. Gleb's inspiration comes primarily from the aged architecture and geography of Europe. He travels extensively in the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean, the Far East, and Maui looking for images to paint. When he finds a view that inspires him, Gleb will sit and absorb it for some time, paying particular attention to how the natural light conditions of the day influence his perspective and moreover his emotional response.

Returning to his main studio in St Petersburg, Gleb will sit and consider his reference material. Reminding himself of scale, he then begins to paint. It is Gleb's emotional response to the subject that he conveys to the canvas, in oil, with only his palette knife.

Flashback: The Chanel Cruise 2016-17 show in Havana, Cuba

Would like to share with you today this flashback of the Chanel Cruise 2016-17 show in Havana, Cuba. This is a repost of my blog I published earlier on 05-05-2016.
Chanel sets Havana as a picturesque scene for its Caribbean-infused Cruise collection. On Tuesday night at the historic Paseo del Prado, Lagerfeld presented a collection that delicately reflected the influence of Cuban silhouettes and motifs including models smoking cigars, shirts that read "Viva Coco Libre!" and a few berets "irreverently evoking 'Commander' Che Guevara". See below for an impression. Be Inspired ......

Butter Wakefield, the garden designer

More about the garden designer
Butter grew up on the East Coast of America, on a little farm outside of Baltimore, Maryland.  Her love for dogs, ponies and all things outdoors taught her at an early age the responsibility and hard work that accompanies these pleasures.  Her mother, aunt and grandfather were all keen and accomplished gardeners, and she remembers with great fondness wandering around their beautiful gardens as a child - her deep appreciation of beautiful surroundings and passion for gardening is a family inheritance running deep in her veins.

Butter trained at the English Gardening School (1997/1998) completing the Year Diploma Course in Plants and Plantsmanship and winning two prizes. More recently she graduated from The London College of Garden Design (2013/2014) with a Merit Commended. Originally she worked as an interior design assistant at Colefax and Fowler on Brook Street where she was trained in the world of decorative interiors.  It was there that her love of the creative process took hold as she learned about scale, texture, pattern, colour and the principles and practices of design.

Butter Wakefield Garden Design is a small design studio offering a very unique and personal service. Butter has over 15 years of experience creating many inspirational and purposeful gardens of all sizes both in London and beyond. She has a profound love for her job and her clients and takes a tremendous amount of time and care over them both.

Furniture Design: Sofa 'My beautiful Backside' by Doshi Levien for Moroso

Interesting furniture designs by Anglo-Indian designers Doshi Levien for Moroso. Doshi and Levien's work combines influences from their respective Indian and European backgrounds.
The first collection the duo designed for Moroso was a series of daybeds called "Charpoy" featuring colourful embroidered Indian mattresses. Doshi Levien's next collection for Moroso, the "My Beautiful Backside" range of sofas, was also heavily influenced by Doshi's Indian background. It's a seating collection launched by Moroso during Milan Design Week 2008. Inspired by a miniature painting of an Indian princess in her palace, sitting on the floor surrounded by multiples of cushions. This blogpost is a repost of my blog from December 2014. Earlier I wrote more blogs about Interior Design, SEE HERE
