INTERIOR: Five Interesting Interiortrends of 2014

I found this morning an interesting article from Nordic Design about the best interiortrends of 2014. Below you will find five interiortrends that influenced the world of design last year: Brass, Natural Minimalism, La Vie en Rose, Marble and Radiant Orchid.

1. Interiortrend: Brass
Brass was in vogue back in the 70’s, but was quickly snubbed by designers that saw it as old-fashioned. Decades later, the designer Tom Dixon was among the first to reintroduce brass with the launch of his very popular Beat pendant lights in 2006. A few year later, brass is experiencing an undeniable resurgence and is the metal of the moment. Brass has warmth, a rich gleam, is timeless, has artisanship with an authentic beauty & personality. I've seen it for tables, stools, lighting design, candleholders, shelves, faucets, (jewelry) boxes, pots, cushions with brass accents/prints etc. Below you will found some options.

2. Interiortrend: Natural Minimalism
Trend to watch: Natural Minimalism. Here is simplicity the rule and quality is more important than quantity. This trend is all about a calming colour palette of beautiful and muted shades of cream, beige, sand, grey and white. Best is to use warm, cosy and neutral hues with soft fabrics, organic shapes and natural materials such as wood, leather, wool, stone etc. I've seen it for woolen plaids & cushions in soft muted hues, wooden chairs combined with leather, wooden tables, ceramics etc. Below you will found some options.

3. Interiortrend: La Vie en Rose
Pink is still very trendy. This color is beautiful and sophisticated when combined with all shades of grey and brass or copper accents, as it creates an harmonious combination. Rosé hues can add a sophisticated and elegant touch. Just make sure you use it sparingly. Below you will found some options.

4. Interiortrend: Marble
Marble has been increasingly popular, also in 2014. It's chic and designers from around the world are using it in unexpected ways. I've seen it for pendant lamps, cushions, bedding, wallpaper, table surfaces, art prints, trays, candle holders, clocks, boxes, napkins etc. You can choose for white or black marble or even for the green version. 5. Interiortrend: Radiant Orchid
Radiant Orchid was the colour of the year 2014 according to Pantone. Deeper shades of plum, mauve and aubergine. Radiant Orchid intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.” The enchanting hue is a fusion of bright fuchsia and purple, with soft pink undertones. “Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm”.
