Would like to share with you today this interesting furniture design. It's the 3D printed Cellular Loop chair designed by Anke Bernotat. A chair based on biomimetics ....... At first sight, Cellular Loop might be mistaken for an ordinary chair. If it wasn’t for its eye-catching cell structure and its seamless, endless ribbon shape, similar to a moebius strip. The chair is extremely lightweight but also possesses the stiffness and stability as well as the elasticity one would expect from a cantilever chair. In order to achieve these characteristics, concepts from the natural world have been transferred to its construction and production method. The aim of the research project was to develop a production method for components inspired by biological construction principles and based on selective laser sintering.
Cellular Loop is the first result of research project Bionic Manufacturing, conducted by Folkwang University of Arts in Essen in collaboration with Fraunhofer UMSICHT and other partners on commission of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Cellular Loop is also the first cantilever chair to be produced by Rapid Prototyping. Be Inspired ...... Earlier I wrote more blogs about Furniture Design, SEE HERE

More about the Design Studio Bernotat&Co – Design is Unlimited
Bernotat&Co is a Dutch-German Design Studio, run by Anke Bernotat (the German one) and Jan Jacob Borstlap (the Dutch one). Together they design, develop, curate and manage local as well as international design projects and exhibitions.
Bernotat&Co believes in unlimited design. The designers work on all scales and in all disciplines: exhibition architecture, product design, graphic design, illustration, art direction and so on. Their scope is also unlimited: they embark on self-initiated projects but also make designs for corporate clients – ranging from high to low budget and from idealistic to pragmatic.
Anke and Jan Jacob have a passion for creating (spatial) worlds, often with the help of clever low-tech solutions. Convinced that designers should have a helicopter view, Bernotat&Co dive deep into any matter. From this starting point, they develop designs which have depth as well as a sense of humor and reveal the poetry in the everyday.
The designs of Bernotat&Co have received various awards (German Design Award, Red Dot, Innovation Award for Architecture and Office, IF Design Award) and their work has been exhibited in many renowned museums worldwide (Die neue Sammlung, Munich; Museum Trapholt, Denmark; Design Museum Holon, Israel; Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam; Hessisches Landesmuseum, Darmstadt; Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter).
Anke Bernotat also holds a position as professor of Industrial Design at Folkwang-University of the Arts and regularly acts as juror on professional panels.
