INSPIRATION: So Grateful For So Much

Minimalist bathroom fixtures by Norm Architects for Ex.t

Copenhagen-based Norm Architects designed a collection of minimalist bathroom fixtures and home furnishings for Ex.t that were inspired by Scandinavian design. The new designs include Stand, a bathtub and basin and Felt, a series of modular wall shelves.

Earlier I wrote more blogs about this inspiring company Norm Architects, see also Part 1Part 2Part 3 and Part 4.
Stand is inspired by those lightweight and elegant cast iron details, typical of 1920s and 1930s interiors, that stylistically characterised the Victorian era and the subsequent Art Nouveau and Art Deco decades. Designed for Ex.t.
Felt in Danish means “field”, “area” or “frame” and refers to the spaces created by the grid by the various shelves. Felt is a modular wall unit which can be used to hang small accessories such as towels, bags and scarves, or it can simply serve as a graphic element. Designed for ex.t.
More about Norm Architects
Kasper Rønn & Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen
NORM is a multidisciplinary design studio focusing on residential architecture, commercial interiors and industrial design. NORM was founded in 2008 by architects Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen by their vocation to create timeless architecture and meaningful design products. "Our home and the things we surround ourselves with, should provide a refuge from the daily chaos, which seems to dominate our world. By understanding minimalism as an aesthetic and simplicity as a philosophy of life, NORM aims at providing structures which gives a feeling of freedom. The justification of a product lies in its ability to differentiate: aesthetically and in functionality. With a determined focus on the good idea, right materials and fine craftsmanship, NORM's primary endeavour is to create useful products, appealing design and architecture that captures and inspire life".

I found this morning this nice and interesting floor lamp design, called the Monsieur Floor Lamp. Just like a man might tip his hat to say Hello, the Monsieur Floor Lamp does the same. Designed by Marco De Masi for Officine Tamborrino, the steel lamp has four tubular legs with a removable lampshade tilted to welcome you into the room.

3-D FASHION: Rising designer 3-D printed an entire collection at home

The fashion industry was among the first to embrace 3-D printing, including designers like Iris van Herpen, whose runways have featured couture designs created by the technology since 2011. But one fashion student in Tel Aviv took it to the next level. She created an entire Ready-To-Wear collection using the small 3-D printing machines you purchase for your home. While creating clothes using industrial 3-D printers is certainly a feat, doing the same thing on the tiny 3-D printers intended for personal use is quite another. Danit Peleg, who just graduated from the Shenkar college of design, did just that and the results are actually amazing. We want to wear it all! Watch the clip above to see the collection now.

I embarked on a year-long journey to find a way to print a 5-piece fashion collection as part of my graduate collection at Shenkar. Using soft materials and flexible patterns, I printed this collection at home.

Fashionweek Istanbul: Zeynep Tosun Fall 2015

Inspiring collection for Fall 2015 from fashion designer Zeynep Tosun at the Mercedes-Benz Fashionweek in Istanbul. She is known for: youthful, carefully tailored dresses and separates, often involving playfully exaggerated proportions and nods to the '70s. Worn by: Lady Gaga.

FURNITURE DESIGN: Lounge Chair by PQL Studio

Love the fluent shape of this lounge chair from PQL Studio as well as the used material. The tension between complexity and simplicity is what makes this lounge chair design unique. The structure of the chair might appear complex, but the overall look is very simple and streamlined. The chair consists of 26 respective sub-elements made of laminated birch veneer. For details, see the enclosed links below.

Interesting design, simple & classic with a very nice natural flair.
This 3,000 sqft prefab home replaced a dilapidated cottage on this beautiful street in Northern California. Located in Burlingame, CA, the house is a showcase of contemporary style and eco-friendly living. The design of the home includes a living roof, a myriad of recycled materials and energy-efficient features including electric car hook-ups. Developed by TobyLongDesign.
