Mattijs van Bergen (1980) launched his label MATTIJS in 2008. He is seen as a real innovative colourist in fashion. His neoclassical designs are defined by high quality fabric and creative craftsmanship. A mix of textures and materials are the base of every collection. Curvaceous tailoring and a sculptural use of pleating are essential aspects of the label's signature style.
The new-glam handwriting of MATTIJS has proven to be highly attractive to women. The look is fresh, festive and feminine. Mattijs van Bergen strives to create feminine clothes that seduce women and surprises them with highly luxurious and innovative details.
He was educated at the Institute of Fine Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands and continued successfully with a Masters degree at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College in London. In December 2012 Mattijs won the prestigious Mercedes Benz Dutch Fashion Award and the International Fashion Incubator Award. An international jury of fashion professionals praised the designs for the balance between creative vision and topical realism and feel his label is most likely to succeed in entering the international market.
