Beautiful artwork by illustrator Edward Julius Detmold

Would like to share with you today this beautiful and refined artwork with flowers and butterflies from the illustrator Edward Julius Detmold
(1883 - 1957). Be Inspired .....

More about the artist Edward Julius Detmold (1883–1957)
Edward Julius was a watercolourist, illustrator and printmaker specialising in natural history subjects and the creation of his own fantastic worlds. Like his twin brother Charles Maurice he was educated privately and studied creatures in the zoo. He worked with him until Charles Maurice’s death in 1908. Edward Julius settled in Montgomeryshire by which time he had established a reputation as a book illustrator working with great exactitude. The Fables of Aesop, 1909 and Maurice Maeterlinck’s The Life of the Bee, 1911 were notable examples. For a few months in 1905 the brothers were associates of RE but resigned. Edward Julius was a prolific exhibitor at Fine Art Society, Brook Street Art Gallery, Arlington and Baillie Galleries, NEAC, RA, RI and elsewhere.

Design: The Woolsey Ping Pong table for design lovers by Sean Woolsey

A few pieces caught my eye this week, like this beautiful Ping Pong table for design lovers by Sean Woolsey. What an elegant and beautiful design! Love the use of walnut too. This Ping Pong table is a sleek, multifunctional table with a solid black walnut top. The table sits on solid walnut legs and has a powder-coated steel net that can be easily removed. Need a dining table? The Woolsey Ping Pong Table can be converted to a dining or conference table as well. This blogpost is a repost of my blog of 24-09-2016. For more 'Design' inspiration SEE HERE

Lighting Design: La Lampe Gras (02)

La Lampe Gras, icon of the 20th century
Be Inspired by this beautiful and timeless lighting design, La Lampe Gras. In 1922 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps for use in offices and in industrial environments. The GRAS lamp, as it was subsequently called, was astounding in its simple, robust and yet very ergonomic design. There are neither screws nor welded joints in the basic form. In 1927 the Ravel company purchased the patent and started production of the GRAS lamps. I wrote earlier ANOTHER BLOG about this inspiring lighting design. This blog is a repost of my blog of 19-07-2021

Bernard- Albin Gras was one of the most innovative designer of the 20th century. The functional esthetic of his lamps and especially the design of details such as those of the arms, stems, brackets and bases were truly original and far ahead of his time. Early on Le Corbusier was seduced by the modern design and user-friendliness of the lamps. He became one of Bernard-Albin GRAS’s most enthusiastic supporters using the lamps in his own offices as well as employing them in numerous architectural projects all over the world.

Others such as Robert Mallet-Stevens, Jacques Emile Ruhlmann and Eileen Gray followed this trend as well. Furthermore, such well-know artists as Sonia Delaunay and Georges Braque also used these lamps in their studios. For the first time in history, a lamp was equally popular in professional as well as in residential applications. Today, the GRAS lamp has become sought after a collector’s item all over the world, most notably in France, in the United States and in Japan. Bernard-Albin Gras’s talented and visionary design has proven to be timeless.
