Whether it’s a desk set in the corner of a room or an elegant private library,
a home office is the place where ideas come to life.
BEAUTY MARK
The sophisticated study in Estée Lauder executive John Demsey’s Manhattan townhouse was decorated by Bibi Monnahan using a slipper chair by Andrée Putman, an antique Venetian mirror from Demsey’s family and a table lamp and mahogany desk from Wyeth. The painting is by John Clem Clarke and the wall color is Ebony Slate by Benjamin Moore.
HISTORY CLASS
Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli’s antiques-filled studio at his villa outside of Florence, Italy, contains a circa-1400 reading table, a 17th-century Savonarola chair and a pony-skin-upholstered armchair that dates from 1910.
CALM AND COLLECTED
A spacious work area in the master bedroom of decorator Darryl Carter's Washington, D.C., townhouse is outfitted with a demilune desk of his own design grouped with such eclectic finds as a porter’s chair, a 19th-century mirror, a vintage Parsons table and a bronze sculpture of galloping horses.
PUNCHED UP
A mix of art and accessories, including framed prints by Andy Warhol brings bold doses of color to the sunny study at interior designer Ernest de la Torre’s Chelsea apartment. The desk is a custom design by de la Torre.
