She is a true visionary and such a fascinating artist! This collection is beyond. Elegant, innovative and mystical. Bravo, Iris! What a craftsmanship, creativity and originality. So beautiful to see. Iris van Herpen explores a symbiosis of high technology and the artisanal craftsmanship of couture, through a collection that references the intricacy of fungi and the entanglement of life that breathes beneath our feet.
Iris showed her latest collection ‘Roots of Rebirth’ during Paris
Haute Couture Week on January 25th 2021. The work of Iris van Herpen is
often described as ethereal and transcendental; a chimeric exposition,
radiating shapes that reference the relationship between the human body and the
natural world. This season, the Dutch designer explores the rich, yet deeply
fragile interconnectedness of an unfamiliar world, the enigmatic fungi empire
and the life-bearing fine threads of mycelium. The collection details the
extraordinary existence of this winding ‘fabric of life,’ the marvelling world
of undergrowth tapestry. In reference to the book penned by scientist Merlin
Sheldrake, ‘Entangled Life’ notes that ‘fungi is the ecological connective
tissue, the living seam by which much of the world is stitched into relation.’
“Thinking about fungi makes the world look different. These astonishing
organisms challenge our animal imaginations and make questions of many of our
well-worn concepts, from individuality to intelligence.” - Merlin Sheldrake
‘Roots of Rebirth’ extends its own branch, an invitation to a
sequence of 21 looks inspired by roots and spores. During the show, the models
seem to magnetise a living lace of spores with each stride, the entanglement of
each garment resembles roots of regeneration. Two looks embody the 'henosis'
technique, in which multiple translucent layers of duchess fabric were dyed in
pastel hues, forming a 'mantodea' motif. An off-white lasercut venation formed
by a myriad of hovering fins sprout outwards, radiating each motion into a
delicate lacy array of invisible interconnectedness. In other creations,
hand-embroidered roots surge and symmetrically entwine the body in
transformative tones, from liquid copper to deep shades of burnt umber.
Hand-pleated mahogany silk were draped to fan out into hemispheric blooms.

While surfing this morning on internet I found this beautiful painting from the talented Russian artist Anastasia Vostrezova. What a Beauty! I guess you've noticed already that I love art and ballet too. Be inspired .......
What Anastasia Vostrezova wrote about herself: My name is Anastasia. I live in St. Petersburg, in Russia. If you are here, it means that you love ballet and dancing as much as I do. I’ve been developing these themes in my art for more than 12 years. For me ballet and the world behind-the-stage is a miracle, grace and lightness. This is what I try to show in my works. My works are dedicated to ballet because I adore theater and admire ballet. My endless source of inspirations is what is going on behind the scenes, dressing rooms, rehearsals, and actors. For me ballet and the world behind-the-stage is a miracle, a grace and a lightness. This is what I try to show in my works. Among my paintings there are plots of my imagination and ballets from the repertoire of different theaters. Still-life is another favorite genre. And once inspired by the abundance of flowers in Summer I create new still-lifes. The antique that I collect is another source of inspiration for me.
====== Anastasia was born in 1981 in a family of artists. She spent all of her childhood in Moscow and in Pereslavl-Zalesski where her family had a summer house. She graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg 2008.
Her personal reaction:
- I see painting as the art of depicting the world in its beauty, be it a person, landscape or flower. Everything has its own color, its own mood, its own soul.
In the physical world, through the perfection of form, the divine manifests itself in beauty. Beauty reveals and depicts what is eternal. In my paintings, I try to follow this practice in an effort to ensure that in the hearts of viewers, the painting arouses a world of thoughts, emotions – happy or sad, but always poetic and sublime. Not always and not in every artwork can this result be achieved, but this is the main objective, without which painting becomes meaningless.I spend a lot of time in the ballet theater, and in the auditorium, as well as backstage during performances and rehearsals.
It is impossible not to love this magnificent scenic world. I often talk with the artists, musicians, people of ballet and I am very close to the words of the great Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, addressed towards all ballet dancers and artists alike … and even towards all people: “Let’s dance more, and try to find more beauty in the dance as well as in life.
A true artist – whether he dances or does something else – always strives for beauty. So let us become one with the world of true artists, just as we become one with the world of dancers, because by replacing ugliness with beauty in visual images and intangible areas, we come a little closer to happiness and completeness -
I always liked to read more about Coco Chanel's life. I am really inspired by her personality and her beautiful, elegant clothes and found this interesting review with pictures from her apartment. During the fashion shows, which took place down stairs, Gabrielle Chanel would sit on the staircase. Thanks to the mirrors she could see everything taking place, but no one could see her. She wanted to know the immediate reaction, if the journalists and clients were pleased with the collection. – Chanel HQ
Coco was photographed many times in this iconic white chair. The octagonal shape of the mirror on the wall was the inspiration for the cap of CHANEL No.5. It is also the same shape of the iconic Place Vendome, which Coco could see out of her window of her residence at the Ritz Hotel.
The camellia flower was also very important to Coco Chanel. It symbolized purity and longevity in Asia and was very prevalent in her designs.
Wheat symbolizes prosperity and can be seen throughout Coco’s apartment.
The top of these tables are black lacquer, but the first time they were marble. Gabrielle Chanel wanted to take off the marble and wanted to have the black lacquer. It may remind you of her make-up- black lacquer with the logo on top. – CHANEL HQ
Coco was a Leo and she incorporated it’s symbol, the Lion, into her personal space.
Japanese deer could be seen in pairs throughout the apartment.
In contrast to Coco’s personal space, the staircase had a heavy art- deco influence.

An imaginary conversation with Gabrielle Chanel and a return to her personal style, masculine-feminine, as well as her fundamental fabrics: tweed, jersey and silk. Reworked, recut and reinterpreted, designed by fashion designer Matthieu Blazy. The show, which was held at the Grand Palais, was set in the intergalactic, complete with planets floating from the ceiling and a mesmerizing milky way runway. Be Inspired .......
