Jason Miller is a Brooklyn-based designer and the founder of Roll & Hill. Born and raised in Darien, Connecticut, Jason’s suburban upbringing heavily influenced his early, more conceptual pieces — duct-taped chairs and cracked vases, among them — and continues to inform the elegant, historically rich work that has become his signature. Jason received an MFA in painting and spent time in both the art and advertising worlds, but soon realized he preferred making things to documenting them. His designs — like a mirror whose photographic surface recalls a painted landscape — still often reflect those early preoccupations, but each is a functional object, with a kind of beauty and wit. Today, Jason runs both Jason Miller Studio and Roll & Hill from his headquarters in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

Lighting Design: Woody Endless - Straight by Jason Miller
Would like to share with you today this beautiful lighting design, Woody Endless - Straight by Jason Miller. Jason Miller’s Endless collection takes its inspiration from 1970s Super-graphics. After the reductionist intentions of modernism faded, some architects began to use large-scale graphic elements to define space. Graphic design became architecture; Endless was designed in the same spirit. Cylindrical sections and corner units allow Endless to be custom-configured as an architectural element. Lighting Design: Hand-Blown glass pendants by John Pomp Studios (01)

While doing blog research I found these beautiful hand-blown glass pendants from the company John Pomp Studios. Striking a balance between classic and modern, John Pomp Studios lighting collection offers one of a kind pieces meticulously crafted by hand. This is a repost of my blogpost of 17-01-2016. Be Inspired ......
John Pomp, founder of John Pomp Studios, began his journey to master-craftsman in his early life while watching his father work as a carpenter. Soon after, he was introduced to glassblowing through his mentor, sculptor and good friend whom he studied with for many years. From there on, he was determined to dedicate his life to his passion of mastering the art of glass making. After studying the ancient art of venetian glassblowing by maestros from Murano Italy, Pomp spent 10 years of his early career in NYC where he gained notoriety with his artfully crafted collections created primarily from glass.
John’s philosophy to create his collection essentially melds his eastern heritage with his western background. Using nature as his inspiration, John utilizes its intrinsic organic, “Wabi-Sabi” principles and fuses it with his contemporary style, forming a unique approach to this old-world art of glass making. John Pomp’s work exemplifies the purity of natural materials while embracing their inherent historical and elemental qualities – yielding a simple, organic modern aesthetic. John Pomp’s 20 years of undying passion and devotion to his craft is reflected in each piece of his collection which is meticulously crafted by hand in his multi-disciplinary studios in Philadelphia.

Lighting Design: La Lampe Gras (02)
La Lampe Gras, icon of the 20th century
Be Inspired by this beautiful and timeless lighting design, La Lampe Gras. In 1922 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed a series of lamps for use in offices and in industrial environments. The GRAS lamp, as it was subsequently called, was astounding in its simple, robust and yet very ergonomic design. There are neither screws nor welded joints in the basic form. In 1927 the Ravel company purchased the patent and started production of the GRAS lamps. I wrote earlier ANOTHER BLOG about this inspiring lighting design. This blog is a repost of my blog of 19-07-2021

Bernard- Albin Gras was one of the most innovative designer of the 20th century. The functional esthetic of his lamps and especially the design of details such as those of the arms, stems, brackets and bases were truly original and far ahead of his time. Early on Le Corbusier was seduced by the modern design and user-friendliness of the lamps. He became one of Bernard-Albin GRAS’s most enthusiastic supporters using the lamps in his own offices as well as employing them in numerous architectural projects all over the world.

Others such as Robert Mallet-Stevens, Jacques Emile Ruhlmann and Eileen Gray followed this trend as well. Furthermore, such well-know artists as Sonia Delaunay and Georges Braque also used these lamps in their studios. For the first time in history, a lamp was equally popular in professional as well as in residential applications. Today, the GRAS lamp has become sought after a collector’s item all over the world, most notably in France, in the United States and in Japan. Bernard-Albin Gras’s talented and visionary design has proven to be timeless.

Dutch Design: Interesting lighting design by Frederik Molenschot

Dutch sculptural lighting designer Frederik Molenschot has created a series of lit structures made from cast bronze for 'Huys 404' (pronounced ‘house’), a new Park Ave residential building in Manhattan, New York. The never before seen structures were unveiled in a new exhibit on the ground floor of the project, a 1917 neoclassical building. Kronenberg Groep, one of the largest real estate developers in the Netherlands, is behind Huys and brought together various designers to showcase Dutch design. Frederik designed this large chandelier that will be featured in the lobby of the building. Earlier I also made a blogpost about the Huys project by Dutch interior designer Piet Boon, SEE HERE
More about the designer:
Frederik Molenschot (the Netherlands, 1981) is a graduate of the renowned Design Academy in Eindhoven and part of the internationally acclaimed Dutch Design movement. Molenschot founded Studio Molen in 2005 and has been working with a group of talented professionals in the field of art and design ever since.

Residential: Beautiful penthouse, Huys 404 Park Avenue, NYC by Piet Boon
Beautiful designed penthouse, Huys 404 Park Avenue South, NYC by Dutch interior designer Piet Boon. Located in the heart of the vibrant NoMad district, Huys 404 is a neo-classical property dating from 1917, set amongst fin-de-siècle office buildings and warehouses and neighboring stately mansions from New York's Gilded Age. Piet Boon was invited by award-winning Dutch property developers Kroonenberg Groep to create the total concept for the conversion from commercial offices to 58 luxurious and elegantly detailed condominiums with ground-floor retail space. Love all the beautiful detailing, like the white walls with the black window frames, lots of light in the living room, the mustard colored Kekke dining chairs that add warmth to the minimalist space. And also the interesting lighting design by Dutch sculptural lighting designer Frederik Molenschot (Studio Molen). For additional information, see the enclosed links below.
