I visited in March 2016 an Art Fair close at my place and found some beautiful and colorful digital artwork from the Dutch artist Jeanet Hage (Deco-Foto). Project design is what Jeanet Hage always has inspired and her inspiration source is nature. She says: 'Nature can offer immeasurable possibilities for photographing'. Jeanet is since 2009 busy with Digital Art. This means: art created by the computer. She is using merely her own materials, unless it concerns an assignment for a client. A new design starts by working with forms, lines and colors of a selected photo. The images of the original photo are often not recognizable anymore and became (half) abstract and figurative creations. Are you also inspired by this interesting abstract work? Colorful digital art by the German artist Catrin Welz-Stein. In 2009 Catrin started to create digital images by collaging old illustrations and photographs. At the same time she discovered online social networks and her private images were then open to the public. Tell us about You - your philosophy and the experience in visual arts

As a child I loved to draw and liked to be creative. I almost was born with a pencil in my hand. I knew I wanted to do something related to arts. I have graduated from Graphic Design in Darmstadt, Germany and then worked for different advertising agencies in Germany, USA and Switzerland.

I stopped working in agencies after becoming a mother and after a short time of being self employed I decided to quit work until my children grew older. Because of my children (4 and 6 years old) I can go through childhood again and I can enjoy the world of fantasy and fairy tails. I like to look at childrens books and let them inspire me. „Where the wild things are“, from Maurice Sendak is a favourite book of all of us. Through the children books I rediscovered the love to illustration again.

As a professional graphic art designer I often had to make compromises for the clients. There were a lot of rules in visual communication and I often felt that I could not express my whole creativity. Now I enjoy creating art that does not explain itself from the beginning. My images have a dreamlike and surreal quality. They speak from inner feelings which we often hide in our daily life.

What are your greatest inspirations?

My inspirations are: fantasy, children stories, medieval, Jugendstil, Folklore and Surrealism. I am inspired by the work of Nicoletta Ceccoli, Kelly Rae Roberts, Sabrina Ward Harrison, Olaf Hajek, Maggie Taylor, Natalie Shau, Colette Calascione and Nazario Graziano. Well, there are so many great artists around!

How did you gain so much knowledge in this area?

As a graphic art designer I worked a lot with digital images.

What creative mediums do you prefer the most and why? 

My images are all digital made. I collect old images and illustrations and put them new together in Photoshop. The working process is based on combining and the division of photographs, with removing, filling and retouch. Using digital medium I have far more creative possibilities and I can work much faster then on the Canvas. Perhaps, my skills have been formed during the long years of working in front of my computer. Thanks to all that I can create my art best in digital.

Your art world is …

My art world is Otto Dix, Frida Kahlo, Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Magritte and Boticelli.

Art and design has interested Michael since an early age, so much so that art class was the one lesson at school he genuinely looked forward to every week. After school and university he had the fortune to be able continue his passion, working as a senior designer at Conde Nast Publications in London. After an exhilarating 12 years he bid farewell to his job and England and moved a couple of thousand miles south to Spain. Karin Vermeer is born and raised in the city of Tilburg, The Netherlands in 1970. In 1994 she finished the Willem de Kooning Academy in the direction Fashion Design, Illustration and Painting. After finishing her education she directly started to work for many different clients, this in art and scenery painting. In early 2000 she specialized more in digital design with different programs. Nowadays she mainly designs paintings on demand, specifically intended for the interior branch. She still makes scenery paintings, illustrations and autonomous works. Her work is always very versatile. She combines realism and abstract matters creating and evolving beautiful pieces of art. You could best define her as a creative myriapod that doesn‘t caution any material. She has much empathy and a good feel for trends and styling. The materials she uses are acrylic- and oilpaints, modeling pastes, gels, photography and many other unusual materials.

'My work is a mix of different pictures/images and paint which I combine on the computer and canvas to create a new image. My favourite subject is the female face. Most of the portraits I create are a mix of four to five different faces, mostly of different race and origin. On my computer I create a new, non existing person out of them. Beside creating and building new persons I also make pictures in my studio of models that I use. Together with these pictures and the pictures of old walls, grunge posters and all kinds of other interesting subjects I create a new image. When the digital part is ready I print the image and start painting over it. I create thick structures and a lot of layers of paint and gel over them. In this way I try to make a digital image tangible again. My work is not so much about explanation and concept. It is a game and all about the image. I start with no idea in general but by looking at images that interest me and by mixing them, slowly a new image evolves.
